Marietta women close out season with 72-49 loss at No. 10 Baldwin-Wallace
Pagenhardt nets 25 in her final game as a Lady Pioneer

BEREA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's basketball team closed its season out with a 72-49 loss at No. 10 Baldwin-Wallace Saturday (Feb. 23) afternoon. The loss brings the Lady Pioneers' final record to 5-19 overall and 2-16 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). Baldwin-Wallace closes out the regular season 23-2 overall, 16-2 in the OAC. The Yellow Jackets won the regular season title and enter the upcoming eight-team OAC Tournament as the top seed.
Senior Justine Pagenhardt (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) led the Pioneers with 25 points, giving her 1,454 career points, which ranks her fourth on Marietta's all-time scoring list. No other Pioneer player scored above five points in the loss. Sophomore Jamie Beckett (Wooster/Triway) added nine rebounds to go along with her five points.
Selena Eskinazi-Budge led the Yellow Jackets with 13 points and collected seven rebounds. Courtney Ritzler scored 11 points off the bench. Amanda Mondrach added 10 points in the win.
The Lady Pioneers stayed with Yellow Jackets through most of the first half; they led twice in the early minutes. Baldwin-Wallace would stretch its lead to as many as 14 in the half but would only lead by 11, 38-27, at intermission. Pagenhardt scored 12 of her 25 points in the first stanza. The Pioneers would cut the lead to six, 44-38, with 14:34 to play. Baldwin-Wallace responded with a 10-0 run to propel itself to the 23-point victory, 72-49.
The Lady Pioneers finished 18-of-51 (.353) from the field, 3-of-11 (.273) from three and 10-of-14 (.714) from the free throw line. The Yellow Jackets finished 25-of-61 (.410) from the field, 7-of-19 (.368) from three and 15-of-26 (.577) from the free throw line. Baldwin-Wallace would lead in rebounds 47-27 and committed 14 turnovers to Marietta's 20. |
