Lady Pioneers drop decision to visiting Cardinals 84-64
Cold shooting plagues Marietta in second half

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's basketball team fell to the visiting Otterbein College Cardinals, 84-64, Wednesday (Jan. 30) night on Fenton Court. The loss drops Marietta's record to 3-14 overall and 0-11 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). With the win, Otterbein improves its record to 9-9 overall and 5-6 in the OAC.
Senior Justine Pagenhardt (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett), the OAC's leading scorer, led Marietta with 17 points. Amanda Carraher (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson) and Nikki Driscoll (Bellaire) each scored 14 points for the Pioneers. Driscoll added seven assists in the defeat.
Sara Fee led four double-digit scorers for Otterbein with 17 points. She also collected six rebounds in the victory. Katy Miller scored 16 points, while Karli Volkmer scored 13 points off the bench. Ana Gamble added 10 points also off the bench.
Otterbein built an early double-digit lead, doubling up Marietta 28-14 with 8:46 remaining in the first half. Marietta battled back to cut the lead down to five, 39-34, at the half. Marietta came out on its first possession of the second half with a three by Carraher to cut the lead to two. That would be as close as it would get again, as Otterbein heated up while Marietta cooled down. The lead stretched to as much as 28, as Otterbein cruised to the 20-point victory 84-64.
Marietta finished 23-of-63 (.365) from the field, 7-of-23 (.304) from three and 11-of-13 (.846) from the free throw line. Otterbein finished 30-of-57 (.526) from the field, 5-of-13 (.385) from three and 19-of-25 (.760) from the free throw line. Otterbein held the edge on the glass, 40-30. The Cardinals also led the turnover battle committing 19 to Marietta's 20.
Marietta will play host to Wilmington College on Saturday (Feb. 2) afternoon. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. |
