Marietta's Jackson scores a career-high 16 points in women's loss to Mount Union
Senior one of four Pioneers to reach double figures

ALLIANCE, Ohio — The Marietta College women's basketball team lost an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) match-up on the road to Mount Union, 72-59, Wednesday (Jan. 16) night. The loss drops the Lady Pioneers' record to 3-11 overall and 0-8 in OAC. The Purple Raiders improve to 6-9 overall and 3-5 in the OAC.
Senior Natalie Jackson (Circleville) led the Lady Pioneers in scoring with a career-high 16 points. Senior guard Justine Pagenhardt (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) scored 14 points, while junior Nikki Driscoll (Bellaire) added 11 points and dished out three assists. Sophomore Amanda Carraher (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson) added 10 points while collecting three rebounds.
Alicia Williams led Mount Union with 20 points and eight rebounds. Tessa Pohovey had 12 points and Haley Drayer scored nine points. Ashley Ross scored eight points and collected 10 rebounds while Steph Schwartz also added eight points.
Williams proved to be a problem for Marietta all night long as she took over in a game that stayed close throughout the early minutes. Williams helped pace a Purple Raider run that put Mount Union up 14 at the half. The second half proved to be much of the same, as Marietta struggled to inch closer to the Purple Raiders. Mount Union sustained many Marietta attempts to cut into its lead and it held on for the 13-point victory in front of its home crowd.
Marietta finished 22-of-46 (.478) from the field, 5-of-15 (.333) from behind the arc and 10-of-16 (.625) from the free throw line. Mount Union finished 22-of-49 (.449) from the field, 7-of-14 (.500) from three and 21-of-28 (.750) from the free throw line. Mount Union dominated Marietta on the glass, out rebounding the Lady Pioneers 36-20. Marietta held the edge in turnovers committing 13 to Mount Union's 14.
The Lady Pioneers return home to Fenton Court Saturday (Jan. 19) afternoon, as Baldwin-Wallace comes to town. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. |
