Lady Pioneers fall on the road to rival Muskies 79-65
Carraher, Beckett and Pagenhardt all reach double figures in loss

NEW CONCORD, Ohio — The Marietta College women’s basketball team jumped out to an early advantage in Wednesday (Jan. 9) evening’s road Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) game at Muskingum College. The Fighting Muskies, however, got hot in the second half and were able to pull out the 79-65 victory.
The loss drops Marietta’s record to 3-9 overall and 0-6 in the OAC. Muskingum improves to 7-5, 2-4 in league play.
Marietta led 10-2 after 3:26 and 34-31 at intermission. Muskingum opened the second half on a 25-6 run to take a commanding 54-40 advantage and never looked back en route to the 79-65 victory.
Leading the way for the Lady Pioneers was junior Amanda Carraher (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson) with 21 points, including five three-pointers. Jamie Beckett (Wooster/Triway) scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Senior Justine Pagenhardt (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) added 11 points in the loss.
Tiffany Youel led the way for Muskingum with 24 points and four steals. Jessica McKenzie had 20 points and collected 15 rebounds for the Muskies. Jessica Brink scored 12 points and had 6 rebounds in the Muskingum win.
For the game, Marietta finished 25-of-60 (.417) from the field, 6-of-21 (.267) from three, and 9-of-11 (.818) from the free throw line. Muskingum finished 32-of-68 (.471) from the field, 4-of-15 (.267) from behind the arc, and 11-of-14 (.786) from the free throw line. Muskingum out rebounded Marietta 37-31 turning the ball over 16 times to Marietta’s 19.
Up next for the Lady Pioneers will be another road OAC game as they will travel to John Carroll. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. |
