Lady Pioneers lose to host Otterbein 89-53
Marietta visits Wilmington on Saturday at 3 p.m.

WESTERVILLE, Ohio — The Marietta College women’s basketball team suffered an 89-53 loss to host Otterbein College Wednesday (Dec. 5) night. The loss drops the Pioneers' record to 2-5, 0-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Cardinals improve to 4-3, 2-0 OAC.
Senior Justine Pagenhardt (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) led all scorers with 20 points and added a team-high nine rebounds. Sophomore Amanda Carraher (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson) scored 14 points, and senior Natalie Jackson (Circleville) added eight points in the loss.
Laura Roth led five double-digit scorers for Otterbein with 16 points. Ana Gamble scored 15 points, while Allison Huettel added 11 points. In addition, Karli Volkmer and Sara Fee each scored 10 points.
Marietta never led in the contest, falling behind by as many as 23 in the first half. Otterbein led 49-28 at intermission. The Cardinals did not let up in the second half, stretching their lead to as many as 37 late in the game then securing the victory, 89-53.
Marietta finished 19-of-62 (.306) from the field, 3-of-17 (.176) from three and 12-of-18 (.667) from the free throw line. Otterbein finished 36-of-67 (.537) from the field, 6-of-11 (.545) from three and 11-of-16 (.688) from the free throw line. The Cardinals dominated the boards, out rebounding the Pioneers 48-36 in the win.
Marietta will remain on the road when it travels to Wilmington on Saturday (Dec. 8) afternoon. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. |
