Oct. 6, 2008
MARIETTA, Ohio — Amanda Wood, a former student-athlete at Central (Iowa) College, became the newest member of the Marietta College athletics department Monday (Oct. 6) morning. Wood was hired to fill a one-year position, which will assist Head Coach Derek Stanley and the department in the preparation for the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Championships will take place at Don Drumm Stadium in Marietta, Ohio, on May 21-23, 2009.
"I am very happy with Amanda being on staff," said Stanley. "She already has a ton of event management experience in various sports with specific experiential knowledge of track & field. She will help to reduce and distribute the workload of this championship, helping the athletic department continue normal operations and keeping me focused on my team."
Wood, a native of Pocahontas, Iowa, earned a Bachelor of Arts in both exercise science with an emphasis in health promotion and business management with an emphasis in administration from Central College in 2006. While at Central, she completed an internship with the Dutch athletics department, where she observed and participated in the daily operations of a Division III Athletics Director. Wood was also a part of the women’s cross country and track & field teams and a team representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Wood, a member of the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA), went on to earn a Master of Arts in sports studies with a concentration in athletic administration from the University of Iowa in 2008. While at Iowa, she spent the last two years working with the Hawkeye athletics department. Wood served as both an Event Management Assistant and a National Iowa Varsity Club Assistant. She helped coordinate the 2007 and 2008 Iowa Varsity Club/Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Weekends as well as several athletic team reunions, including the 35th Anniversary of Iowa Women’s Athletics. Wood was also the Assistant Tournament Director of the 2008 NCAA Regional Softball Tournament, which took place in Iowa City.
"I believe that all of my experiences at the University of Iowa will greatly assist me here at Marietta College," said Wood. "Those experiences, combined with my time as a student-athlete at Central and my deep belief in the Division III philosophy, will help Marietta put on a first class championship this spring." |
