AUSTINTOWN, Ohio — The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) office released its 2008 Academic All-OAC Women’s At-large Winners on Tuesday (May 13) morning and two Marietta College tennis players received recognition. Junior Amanda Carraher (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson) earned Academic All-OAC honors, while sophomore Lauren McKiernan (Parkersburg, W.Va./South) was given honorable mention.

Carraher, a three-time All-OAC first team honoree in tennis, finished with a 10-1 record at first singles in 2008 and is now 29-4 over her three-year career in singles play. Carraher also teamed with McKiernan to finish 7-5 at first doubles this spring. The psychology major, which also earned Academic All-OAC At-large in 2007 and Academic All-OAC in women’s basketball in 2008, maintains a 3.72 grade point average.

McKiernan was a mainstay at second singles for the Pioneers and finished 2-10 in 2008. The two-year letterwinner also combined with Carraher to win 7-of-12 first doubles matches. The biology major carried a 3.61 grade point average into her fourth semester at Marietta.

Marietta tennis, under the helm of first year coach Danika Cox, finished the season 3-9 overall and 2-7 in the OAC. The Pioneers qualified for the OAC Tournament and fell to eventual champion Baldwin-Wallace College in the first round.

39 women have been named Academic All-OAC and Academic All-OAC honorable mention in 2008.
