Marietta women fall 8-1 at John Carroll
Carraher's win streak snapped at 18 matches

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio — The Marietta College women’s tennis team fell 8-1 to host John Carroll University on Thursday (April 17) afternoon. The Pioneers dropped to 3-7, 2-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC), while the Blue Streaks improved to 6-10, 3-4 in league play.

Marietta's lone point came at first doubles when junior Amanda Carraher (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson) and sophomore Lauren McKiernan (Parkersburg, W.Va.) teamed up to win their match 8-4. The duo improved to 7-3 in 2008.

Carraher then put her 18-match win streak and undefeated season on the line at first singles, only to fall in a third-set, 10-point tiebreaker. Carraher lost 4-6, 6-3, 6-10; she is now 9-1 this spring.

Marietta closes out the regular season on Saturday (April 19) afternoon with an league match at Capital University. The Pioneers will attempt to improve their seeding for next week's OAC Tournament.
