Lady Pioneers suffer 7-2 loss to Lady Polar Bears
Jen Wolfe and Amanda Carraher win points in singles play
March 28, 2008
MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team welcomed Ohio Northern University to the Beren Tennis Center Friday (March 28) afternoon for an Ohio Athletic Conference match. The Polar Bears won the battle, 7-2, to improve to 11-3, 2-0 in league play. The Pioneers fell to 0-2, 0-2 in the OAC.
Both of Marietta's points came on comebacks and needed third-set tiebreakers to help overcome a straight game loss in the opening set. Sophomore Jen Wolfe (Ravenswood, W.Va.) was the first Pioneer to do so. She battled back from a 0-6 loss to win the second set 7-6 (7-5) and then the third set 10-6 to pick up her first win of the season.
Junior standout Amanda Carraher (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson) followed suit, bouncing back from a 0-6 loss in game one to win game two 7-6 (7-5) and then game three 10-7 to increase her win streak to 11 straight games, dating back to last year. Carraher's last loss came against Ohio Northern on March 24, 2007.
Marietta is back in action on Saturday (March 29) when it plays host to Heidelberg College. The start time has been moved up to 10 a.m. at the Beren Tennis Center.
