MARIETTA, Ohio — The 2008 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-Region Softball Teams were released late Tuesday (May 6) afternoon, and Marietta College had two players receive regional recognition. Junior first baseman Emily McComb (Gnadenhutten/Indian Valley) and sophomore catcher Katie Woolf (Louisville) both earned third team All-Central Region honors for their efforts this spring.
McComb, an All-Ohio Ahletic Conference (OAC) second team honoree, led the Pioneers in hitting with a .398 (45-for-113) batting average in 2008. The first baseman also paced the team in hits with 45, runs scored with 33 and stolen bases, where she was a perfect 15-for-15. She also had seven doubles, one triple and 10 RBI this spring. McComb added a team-high 224 putouts. She currently sits second all-time in sacrifices (38) and putouts (736) while third in career stolen bases (40).
Woolf, a two-time All-OAC award winner (All-OAC second team in 2007 and All-OAC honorable mention in 2008), batted .388 (40-for-103), which was second to only McComb. She led the squad in RBI with 29, the fourth most for a Pioneer in single season history. Woolf finished second in hits with 40 and home runs with three while adding seven doubles. The catcher also collected 170 putouts this spring.
Marietta, under the leadership of 21st-year Head Coach Jeanne Arbuckle, finished the season 21-13 overall and 9-9 in the OAC, which placed them sixth in the standings. The Pioneers lose three seniors, Brandy Jacob (Wellington/Keystone), Krista Huffman (Woodsfield/Monroe Central) and Nikki Veigel (Canton/South). The class finished its career with the most wins in school history, compiling a 104-61 (.630) record. |
