Pioneers fall 3-1 to host Yellow Jackets in men's soccer
Marietta will visit Mount Union Tuesday at 7 p.m.

BEREA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's soccer team stumbled on the road Saturday (Oct. 25) night, falling 3-1 to host Baldwin-Wallace College in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action. The win improved the Yellow Jackets' record to 12-5 overall and 2-5 in the OAC. The Pioneers fell to 8-5-3, 3-3-2 in league play.
Baldwin-Wallace out-shot Marietta 18-12 overall and both teams finished with seven shots on goal. The Yellow Jackets also held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Marietta found itself down 1-0 at halftime after Baldwin-Wallace's Carlin Vandendriessche found the back of the net after a pass from Tyler Leister for his team-leading ninth goal of the season in the 28th minute.
The score remained the same until the final 10 minutes when Baldwin-Wallace took advantage of Marietta pressuring the box to score a pair of quick goals to put the game away. Andrew Thompson scored on a shot from outside the 18 in the 81st minute, while Leister scored on a header, following a rebound off the cross bar, in the 83rd minute.
Marietta broke the shutout in the 84th minute when senior forward Seita Kawamoto (Ebina, Kanagaua, Japan) scored after a corner kick from senior midfielder Jack Dunn (Aurora/University) to make the final score 3-1 in favor of the Yellow Jackets. The goal was Kawamoto's fifth of the season.
Senior goalkeeper Steve Hagenau (Clearwater, Fla./Central Catholic) made four saves in 85:50 before senior Tad Cochran (Westerville/Worthington Christian) came in to work the final 4:10. Russ Mika made six saves in the win for B-W.
Marietta is back in action on Tuesday (Oct. 29) afternoon when the Pioneers visit Alliance for an OAC match-up with host Mount Union College at 7 p.m.
