Shooting woes doom Marietta men in loss to Kenyon
Pioneers shot just 26% in 75-48 loss to Lords

GAMBIER, Ohio — The Marietta College men’s basketball team had its shooters go cold on Sunday (Nov. 30) afternoon, which resulted in a 75-48 loss to host Kenyon College. The Pioneers record dropped to 2-2, while the Lords improved to 4-1 on the year.

Marietta freshman Trevor Halter (Malvern) scored a career-high 16 points, hitting 9-of-11 from the free throw line, but the Pioneers’ struggles from the floor enabled Kenyon to cruise to the 26-point win.

Marietta shot just 14-of-53 (.264) from the field, connecting on only 4-of-24 (.167) from beyond the arc. The Pioneers also converted 16-of-24 (.667) from the charity stripe in the loss. Kenyon, meanwhile, finished 24-of-58 (.414) from the floor, hitting just 5-of-21 (.238) from three-point range and 22-of-29 (.759) from the free throw line. The Lords out-rebounded the Pioneers 43-37 and turned 17 Marietta turnovers into 23 points. Marietta forced 13 turnovers, which resulted in 22 points.

Pioneers freshman post Zane Carter (Wellsville) added seven points and five rebounds off the bench, while freshman wing Joe Puch (Brunswick) and junior post Daun Lutes (New Matamoras/Frontier) both had six points in the loss.

Bryan Yelvington paced Kenyon with 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Allen Bediako had 11 points and Anthony Chun added 10 points. In addition, three others players had nine points in the win.

Marietta is back in action on Wednesday (Dec 3) evening when it plays host to Denison University. It will be the home opener for the Pioneers with tip-off in Ban Johnson Arena slated for 7:30 p.m. Marietta College’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is sponsoring a “White Out” at Wednesday’s game and fans are encourage to wear white shirts to show your support for Marietta College basketball. Prizes will be given away throughout the game.
