Pioneer men suffer first loss of the season at Ohio Wesleyan 80-58
Marietta plays at Kenyon Sunday at 3 p.m.

DELAWARE, Ohio — Jon VanderWal’s Marietta College basketball squad suffered its first loss of the season Saturday (Nov. 29) afternoon, falling 80-58 at Ohio Wesleyan. The loss dropped Marietta’s record to 2-1, while the Bishops improved to 2-1.
Junior Daun Lutes (New Matamoras/Frontier) led the Pioneers with 13 points and seven rebounds. Senior Isaiah Creasap (Wooster/Northwestern) and freshman Trevor Halter (Malvern) both scored 11 points in the loss. In addition, freshman Zane Carter (Wellsville) added nine points and eight rebounds off the bench.
Kyle Holliday paced the Bishops with 25 points and six rebounds. Kyle Miller also scored 11 points and Brent Pleiman added 10 points with 10 rebounds.
The Bishops started the game on a 7-0 run to set the early pace in the game. The Pioneers first basket did not come until 3:55 into the game. The Bishops quickly stretched their lead to double digits, 15-5, at 13:20 mark of the first half. The Bishops led by 15 at the half. Marietta cut the lead down to seven, 61-54, with 5:31 left in the game. The Bishops responded with a 14-2 run over the next four minutes to put the game away and cruised to the 22 point win.
For the game, Marietta shot 21-of-49 (.429) from the field, 4-of-10 (.400) from three and 12-of-19 (.632) from the free throw line. Ohio Wesleyan shot 31-of-69 (.449) from the field, 11-of-31 (.355) from three and 7-of-20 (.350) from the free throw line. The Bishops out rebounded the Pioneers 45-32 and won the turnover battle, committing only nine compared to Marietta’s 18.
The Pioneer men are back in action Sunday (Nov. 30) afternoon as they will travel to Kenyon College for a 4 p.m. tip-off.
