The Teams: Frostburg State (Md.) University (2-7, 2-0 PAC), Grove City (Pa.) College (6-2, 2-0 PAC), Marietta College (2-7, 0-4 OAC) , Waynesburg (Pa.) University (4-4, 0-2 PAC).
The Coaches: Marietta's Jon VanderWal, a 2001 graduate of Albion, is in his first year as the head coach of the Pioneers. Webb Hatch is in his ninth season with Frostburg State. Grove City's Steve Lamie is in his 10th season with the Wolverines. Frank Ferraro is in his fifth season with Waynesburg.
The Conferences: Three conferences are represented this weekend; that is why it is a classic rather than a tournament. The Pioneers compete in the tough Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC), while Frostburg State is representing the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC). Grove City and Waynesburg are both members of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).
Last Game for Frostburg: The Bobcats suffered an 89-64 loss to non-conference foe Marymount (Va.) on Dec. 16. Freshman Martin Fernandez scored 14 points to lead the Bobcats. He was followed by junior Juan Wansley with 13.

Last Game for Grove City: The Wolverines dropped a non-conference game to host Hiram, 78-76, in overtime on Dec. 12. Senior Shawn Carr paced Grove City with 16 points and junior Joe McCoy added 15 in the loss.

Last Game for Marietta: The Pioneers fell to visiting Heidelberg 86-63 on Dec. 15. Senior Adam Rockhold paced Marietta with 17 points and eight boards, while junior Daun Lutes and freshman Bradley Hinton both added 12 points in the loss.

Last Game for Waynesburg: The Yellow Jackets topped visiting Franciscan, 80-63, on Dec. 15. Junior Dan Happe scored a team-high 18 points, while senior Tim Drakeley added 13 in the win.

Up Next for the Pioneers: Marietta will return to Ohio Athletic Conference play Wednesday (Jan. 9) when it plays host to Muskingum at 7:30 p.m.

Hall of Fame Tickets on Sale: February 16, 2008, will mark the induction of five former Pioneer standouts into the 25th class of the Marietta College Athletics Hall of Fame. This year's inductees include national-qualifying distance runner Roderick MacLeod '72, All-American baseball standout and Way-Weigelt award winner David Thomas '84, All-American defensive tackle Jason Olivea '96, Betty Cleland award winner Lee Ann Shoemaker '97 and two-time National Player of the Year and Way-Weigelt award winner Joseph Thomas '97.
