Edick drains five three-pointers in Marietta's 72-51 loss to Mount Union
Freshman continues to lead entire NCAA in three-point percentage

ALLIANCE, Ohio — The Marietta College men's basketball team fell on the road to Mount Union College, 72-51, Wednesday (Feb. 20) night. The loss drops the Pioneers' record to 6-18 overall and 2-15 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). Mount Union improves its record to 9-15 overall and 6-11 in the OAC.

Leading the way for the Pioneers was freshman guard Nathan Edick (Westerville/Thomas Worthington) with 17 points, as he hit 5-of-9 (.555) from behind the arc. Senior Adam Rockhold (Olmsted Falls) scored 15 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. Juniors Isaiah Creasap (Wooster/Northwestern) and Daun Lutes (New Matamoras/Frontier) each scored eight points in the loss. Creasap hit a pair from long range to bring his career total to 216 three-point field goals, breaking the previous school record of 214 held by Jeff Caldwell '93. Freshman Jordan Cox (West Union) was the only other Pioneer to score in the game; he finished with three points.

Mount Union had four players in double figures led by Chris Switzer with 22 points. Jay Mathis scored 14 points, Dave Pellerite scored 11 points and Mike Fatigante scored 10 points. Mathis, Pellerite and Fatigante also collected five rebounds.

Both teams traded baskets and leads through the first 11:30 of the first half. After trailing 15-14 with 8:43 left in the half, the Purple Raiders ended the half by outscoring Marietta 18-8 to lead 32-23 at the half. Mount Union would lead by as many as 23 in the second half, as the Pioneers had no answer for Switzer. The Purple Raiders went on to win by 21, 72-51.

Marietta finished 19-of-48 (.396) from the field, 8-of-23 (.348) from behind the arc and 5-of-8 (.625) from the free throw line. Mount Union shot 26-of-58 (.448) from the field, 9-of-21 (.429) from three and 11-of-13 (.846) from the free throw line. The Purple Raider held the edge in rebounding 33-28 and committed only 12 turnovers to Marietta's 17.

The Pioneers will close the season Saturday (Feb. 23) afternoon at home against Baldwin-Wallace on Senior Day. Game time is slated for 3 p.m. Rockhold, the lone senior, will be honored for his dedication to the program before the game.
