Marietta men roll in rout of Penn State-DuBois 111-87
Five Pioneers score double figures in their first win

MEADVILLE, Pa. — The Marietta College men’s basketball team scored early and often as it ran away with its first victory of the season in a 111-87 rout of Penn State-DuBois in the consolation game of the National City Holiday Tournament, hosted by Allegheny College Sunday (Nov. 25) afternoon. The victory is the first for first-year Head Coach Jon VanderWal at Marietta College. With the win, the Pioneers improve to 1-3 on the season, while the Lions drop to 1-3.
Marietta came out on fire as it quickly built a strong lead early and never looked back in its win over the Lions. Marietta led 59-37 at the half and again surpassed the half-century mark with 52 points in the second half. The Pioneers finished 42-of-68 (.618) from the field, 7-of-14 (.500) from the three-point line and 20-of-25 (.800) from the line. The Lions shot 26-of-67 (.388) from the field, 9-of-29 (.310) from the three-point line and 26-of-36 (.722) from the line.
Senior center Adam Rockhold (Olmsted Falls), who scored a game-high and career-high 25 points and collected game-high 11 rebounds, led Marietta's offensive attack. The All-Tournament Team honoree posted his third straight double-double. Junior forward Daun Lutes (New Matamoras/Frontier) scored 20 points and added eight rebounds.
The guard trio of Jordan Cox (West Union), Jordan Johnson (Reynoldsburg) and Nathan Edick (Westerville/Thomas Worthington) scored 15 points each. Johnson led all players with six assists.
The Lions also had five players in double figures. Kevin Genevro scored a team-high 24 points, Kyle Vogt contributed 19 points, Jonny Songer had 12 points and Ryan Hritz and Dylan Howard both added 10 points.
The Pioneers are back in action on Wednesday (Nov. 28) evening when they play host to Franciscan. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. |
