Three Marietta College football players earn All-OAC honors in 2008
Cowell named to second team, while Hunter and Thompson given honorable mention

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio — The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) office announced its 2008 All-OAC Football Teams and Special Award Winners on Tuesday (Nov. 25) morning, and three Marietta College players earned league recognition. Senior linebacker Grant Cowell (Perrysville/Loudonville) picked up All-OAC second team honors, while junior running back Lamar Hunter (South Euclid/Brush) and senior defensive back Clinton Thompson (Waverly, W.Va./Williamstown) both received All-OAC honorable mention.
Cowell, a 2008 All-OAC honorable mention selection, was the heart of the defense throughout the season. The captain, who missed the last two games with injury, finished second on the squad in total tackles with 57, 32 of which were solo hits. Cowell also added six tackles for loss and two and one-half sacks in 2008. He had a career-high 14 stops against Ohio Northern in week seven.
Hunter led Marietta’s rushing attack with 135 carries for 557 yards this fall. The tailback, who missed the final game with an injury, scored one touchdown and averaged 4.1 yards per carry and 61.9 yards per game. Hunter also caught 13 passes for 100 yards and one score in 2008. He ran for a career-high 172 yards on 26 carries against Wilmington in week three.
Thompson finished third on the squad in total tackles with 54 hits in 2008. The corner back added one tackle for loss to go along with five pass deflections and one blocked kick this season. Thompson had a career-best 11 tackles against Baldwin-Wallace in week four.
Marietta, led by first-year Head Coach Jeff Filkovski, closed the year with a 2-8 record and was 1-8 in the OAC.
