Pioneer football announces time change for Sept. 27 home opener
Marietta will take on Baldwin-Wallace at 7 p.m. in game broadcast by WTAP-TV

Aug. 13, 2008
MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College athletics department announced on Wednesday (Aug. 13) afternoon that its 2008 football home opener against Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) rival Baldwin-Wallace, slated for Sept. 27, will now kickoff at 7 p.m. The start time was moved back one hour so that the game could be broadcast live, locally in Marietta on WTAP-TV. The broadcast is being sponsored by Gene Haynes '53 and State Farm Insurance.

WTAP will carry the game live on its My 5 station (Channel 5), as well as on its web channel, http://www.wtap.com. The game will re-air that night on Fox Parkersburg (Channel 14) at 11:30 p.m. and then again on Sunday (Sept. 28) at 10 a.m. This will be the second time that WTAP broadcasts a live Marietta College football game; it carried the Pioneers' game against Otterbein College last season.

Marietta's home opener is also Football Alumni Day [Register Today] and the 4th annual River City Bowl. A full evening of activities are scheduled for the community so make your plans to join the Pioneers at Don Drumm Stadium. The College has numerous pre-game activities planned to honor those attending the game. For starters, the College is having a tailgate for fans of both teams starting at 5:30 p.m. The tailgate will include free soda, hot dogs, bratwurst and many other treats outside the stadium.

"The River City Bowl is a way for the College and football program to thank both the College community and the Marietta community for its wonderful support," first-year Head Coach Jeff Filkovski said. "Combining this with our Alumni Day for the second straight year should produce a great atmosphere for football."

Marietta begins preseason camp on Thursday (Aug. 14) afternoon with practice at 3 p.m. The Pioneers will open the season on Sept. 6 when they travel to Greenville, Pa., for a 1:30 p.m. match up with host Thiel College. Marietta then visits Wilmington College on Sept. 20 for its OAC opener before hosting Baldwin-Wallace in week four.
