Ohio Northern University sweeps 2008 Ohio Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships
Heidelberg's Butcher and Baldwin-Wallace's Hlavin both set course records in victory on Saturday

Marietta, Ohio — Ohio Northern University captured both the men's title and the women's crown at the 2008 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Cross Country Championships, hosted by Marietta College Saturday (Nov. 1) afternoon at the Broughton Nature and Wildlife Education Area in Marietta, Ohio.
The Polar Bear men won their second straight league championship by placing four runners in the top 10 to finish with 39 points. Mount Union College collected 48 points to finish second, while Heidelberg College had 54 points and took third place. [Men's Results]

Heidelberg boasted the overall champion, as junior Devin Butcher set a course record by crossing the line in 25:57.68. Butcher took seventh place a year ago. 2007 champion Jimmy O'Brien, a senior for Ohio Northern, took second place with a time of 26:18.06, while Mount Union senior Dustin Ford place third with a time of 26:19.32 after finishing fourth last year. The top nine runners earned All-OAC first team honors, while the 10th through 18th place finishers earned All-OAC second team honors.

Ohio Northern's women captured their third OAC title in the last four years by having its top three runners all finish in the top 10 and totaling 57 points as a team. Baldwin-Wallace College narrowly edged Otterbein College for second place as just two points separated the two schools. The Yellow Jackets finished with 64 points, while the Cardinals had 66 points. For the second straight season, the individual champion came from Baldwin-Wallace, as junior D'Arcy Hlavin set a course record by running a time of 23:10.18. Senior teammate Ashley Scullion took second place after crossing the line in 23:14.60. Marietta junior Randi Robertson placed third overall with a time of 23:26.59. The top nine runners earned All-OAC first team honors, while the 10th through 18th place finishers earned All-OAC second team honors.
