Marietta College cross country to host Carl Broughton Invitational on Saturday
Men’s 8K race will begin at 11 a.m.; women’s 5K race will follow at 12 p.m.

MARIETTA, Ohio — On Saturday (Sept. 13) morning, cross country athletes, coaches and fans will descend on the Broughton Nature and Wildlife Education Area when Marietta College plays host to the sixth annual Carl Broughton Invitational. Action will be start with the men’s eight-kilometer race at 11 a.m., while the women’s five-kilometer race will begin at 12 p.m.
Head Coach Derek Stanley and his Pioneer harriers will welcome 10 teams to the grounds, which are located just three miles from the Marietta College campus on Route 821. The Broughton course will also be the site of the 2008 OAC Cross Country Championships, which take place on Nov. 1. [Directions]
Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) foes Capital University, Heidelberg College, Muskingum College and Otterbein College join Alderson-Broaddus (W.Va.) College, Bethany (W.Va.) College, Fairmont State (W.Va.) University, Notre Dame College, St. Vincent (Pa.) College and West Liberty (W.Va.) State University to complete the field of competitors.
An awards ceremony, recognizing the top two teams and top 15 individuals, will take place following the women’s race at approximately 1 p.m. Complete results and recaps will be available on http://pioneers.marietta.edu on Saturday afternoon.
